Pleasant Hill Civic Center Fountain and Plaza Rehabilitation

The Civic Center was designed by Charles Moore FAIA and Urban Innovations Group/Fisher Friedman Architects in 1991. The complex is organized around a small lake and the fountain is the complex centerpiece. After 30 years of use and wear & tear, the City of Pleasant Hill retained Robert Nebolon Architects to provide conceptual design services to refurbish the plaza area, the fountain tile, re-imagine the fountain plaza layout, and provide a 5 year plan to re-design the landscaped areas on the entire 1 square block area. The design is a collaboration between Robert Nebolon Architects and Kevin Keim, Director of the Charles Moore Foundaton

A new landbridge divides the two water systems and also connects the fountain plaza to the under-used north lawn area which will be come a dense landscape screen. Water displays in the lake and koi pond will be restored and additional fountain and lake lighting will be provided. The single-water systems is now split into two separate systems—each with their own filter system—part of the lake will become a koi pond. CMS Collaborative Inc, the water display consultant, was retained to review the existing water and fountain system and create a modern efficient system to keep the water features attractive and to minimize annual maintenance costs to the City.
