Having grown up in the South Bay/Los Angeles Beach coastal communities of Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Manhattan Beach, Robert Nebolon's formative years were shaped by the relaxed Southern California coastal lifestyle, reflected in the ranch house/Mexican-Spanish design and the modern architecture of Los Angeles.
At UC Berkeley, Robert Nebolon learned of the Bay Area Regional Style which merges local building solutions with modern architecture, strong consideration of the context, eco-systems & sustainability, and strong consideration of context. At Univeristy of Washington, Robert Nebolon studied further into site specificity, site context, and thoughtful integration between structure and topography.
With his Architect license obtained in 1988, and after working at other architectural firms, Robert Nebolon established his architectural firm, Robert Nebolon Architects (RNA), in Berkeley, California in 1993. The mission of RNA was and continues to be exploring Critical Regionalism: providing contemporary site-sensitive warm modern architecture that considers local and international thoughts and cultures as viable solution sources.
