Jazz Caffe #1, california jazz conservatory

The California Jazz Conservatory (CJC), a 40 year old Berkeley Institution, is a renown graduate jazz school in Downtown Berkeley. After the original JazzCaffé flooded in the basement , the CJC investigated possible restoration of the damaged JazzCaffé into a remodeled and upgraded version of the old design.

The CJC wanted the café (by day) to provide food and beverages to students, jazz instructors, and foot traffic during the day. By night, the café would also provide food and beverages to jazz patrons who attended a small jazz concert nearby. The café is on the same block as the nationally known Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the Aurora theatre and the Freight & Salvage venue.

The CJC decided to relocate the Jazz Caffè to a street level location in their second building across the street. This new venue was constructed and became Jazz Caffè #2.
