Ocean View House

Oakland Hills,   CA

Interior Photography by David Duncan Livingston

The house was designed for a professional couple with two young children.

The home features an asymmetric, yet balanced, massing.  The tower contains a spiral stair which culminates at viewing platform with Bay Views.

The entrance drive acts as an entrance plaza by using inlaid flagstone and exposed aggregate concrete, eliminating any of the usual driveway clues.

Contractor: Young&Burton, Danville, CA

Construction:  1992

The dining room features a day-lit built-in niche

with windows concealed above the arch.  The

niche also acts as a buffet.

Arched glu-lam ridge beam has been compared to

East side of the residence which shows bay windows from various parts of the residence.  The rocks in the foreground are natural to the site.

Detail of the tower and the view beyond.  A circular stair to the upper floors are inside the tower.   On top, a viewing platform allows views of the entire Bay area

The weathervane is constructed of 1/8" thick steel sheets,

and stained glass.  Designed by the Architect
