the new stairs towards the view of San Francisco. New landscaping will
conceal the house behind the half-moon bench.
The clients requested that their backyard
terrace and pool area be remodeled in a manner that was compatible with
their 1924 house. which was built by the same contractor who
built San Simeon for William Randolph Hearst and Julia Morgan, Architect.

The original design featured a free-standing
gazebo to the south of the pool and a loggia to the north of the pool.
Narrow out-of scale Stairs led down from the terrace down to pool area.

The original stairs were in the same location
but very small and completely out of scale with the house and the pool.
The architect proposed to rebuild the stair and decorate the stairs with F.L.
Wright "Winslow" urns. The entire pool itself was remodeled, enlarged,
and is lined with mosaic tile of various greens, blues, and aquas.

(Above) The architect proposed moving the gazebo
6'-0" to align with the center of the pool, thus aligning perfectly
with north loggia on the other side of pool. A slightly raised terrace was
constructed around the gazebo to further enlarge the presence of the
gazebo as it was thought that its actual size was out of scale with the
pool itself.

The north loggia with the new raised sun-bathing
lawn bracketed by F.L. Wright "Winslow" Urns. The pool deck is
composed of 3" thick granite pavers with a roughened surface. The pool
coping is the same material with a round edge. |
