Castle Rock Addition

Walnut Creek,   CA

The clients requested that the master bedroom be placed upstairs, a new family room be constructed off the rear, and that the living room and entry be remodeled.

The original house was the standard single story "L" shaped plan with the garage driveway in the best part of the site.

The architect proposed to relocate the driveway to the other side of the garage, thus allowing an entry court to the front door, complete with trellises

The standard 8'-1" living room ceiling was eliminated by construction of a slot-like skylight which gently illuminates the exposed roof structure. Painted open-web joists enliven the entire room without the clunky effects of their solid wood counterparts.
